Tammerlin, One Kind Favor (BirdsTale, 2005)

Lee Hunter and Arvid Smith, the Jacksonville, Florida-based duo who make up Tammerlin, offer a 15-track collection that ranges from traditional Celtic tunes through Appalachian ballads, a Bob Dylan cover, and one from Malcolm Holcombe. There's a shimmering, airy quality to the arrangements that well suits Hunter's voice. Darol Anger and Byron House are among those who sit in on the Pete Winter-produced project. Outstanding cuts include the originals "South Atlantic Blues" and "Clair de Lune Summer" and two different takes on the familiar song "She Moved Through the Fair." (KD)
